This last fortnight has gone in a blur and here we are ready to reconnect again with ideas for your family to get together, get talking and be close again. No one wants to feel alone or disconnected from the people they love especially at a festive time of the year. We hope our ideas bring a little cheer to your lives!
This can be such a busy time with so many jobs to get done and commitments to fill we often get side-tracked from the really special part, spending quality time with the people in your life, sharing moments that will become memories and showing them how much they mean to you.
With this in mind we thought that nothing could be better suited than some ideas on new Christmas traditions to start as a family, and even a few that work all year round.
Having a family tradition can mean so much to kids and parents alike, it makes everyone feel like they are part of something special and almost everyone loves to have a certain amount of routine in their life.
Almost everywhere you go now seems to set up a Christmas ice rink, so why not enjoy it! Skate under the stars movie style, in front of a famous landmark or just at your local park. Enjoy helping each other round or having races if you already have mad skating skills! Afterwards you can sip hot chocolate together and laugh over how wet you are!
Christmas Shopping Event
From famous Christmas markets to your local Christmas Fayre and everything in between. Go on a trip together to do some shopping, pick up some new decorations for the tree, have some mulled wine (if your old enough!) and get festive.
Christmas Eve Present
Warm up for the main event by giving each other 1 present before bed on Christmas Eve. Try to make it something really special or handmade to really make your loved ones feel amazing.
This is one of our family traditions, a trip to the Pantomine. We go every year all dressed up in our new bits and bobs, the kids love it, the partners not so much and every year we try not to get noticed by the Dame!
Decorate the Tree/House
Depending on how much of a decoration obsessive you are you may like to start a tradition of decorating the tree/house together. The perfect hallmark moment of hanging baubles on the tree while smiling loving at each other is sure to happen at least once before the need to shoo everyone off to bed so you can redo it all just so!
Give a little love back by joining in with one of the many volunteering programmes that run over the festive period, even better keep the tradition up all year round.
Christmas Movie Night
The Grinch, Home Alone, Its a Wonderful Life, Elf, with so many Christmas greats to choose from the popcorn will be flowing till New Years. Snuggle up in your matching family PJs and let the movie begin.
Present Wrapping Fun
The precursor to the present unwrapping frenzy, first everything needs to be beautifully wrapped up. Start a production line or each take a pile and make a game of it. Prizes for best wrapping, fastest wrapping and of course a prize for the person to wrap the awkwardly shape present everyone else is avoiding, why oh why isn’t everything box shaped?!
Bake treats for Santa and the Reindeers
Especially brilliant if your kids are younger, baking is always a winner and there can never be too many people to lick the bowl can there?! You can even host a Great Christmas Bake Off and see who is the baker in your house.
Christmas Day Pass the Parcel
Create your own or get one from the shops this is a great alternative or addition to crackers. Make it yourself with cute gifts you know they will love and instead of jokes put in family memories to read out and remember together.
Many of these ideas are easily turned into all year round traditions to get in some quality time together.
